The Defender-XL offers a wide viewing window, a crisp image with true 1× magnification, and a range of modern technologies that make competitive shooting much easier. It features a large aspherical lens with durable Armortek coating, a Shockshield insert that absorbs impacts, a motion sensor extending battery life up to 25,000 hours, and a DeltaPoint Pro footprint. The Vortex Defender-XL is intended for full-size pistols used by IPSC shooters and for those who want a sight that ensures instant target acquisition and rapid transitions between targets.

The housing is CNC-machined from 7075 aircraft-grade aluminum. As a result, the sight is lightweight (only 54 g), durable, and resistant to recoil, drops, and harsh IPSC conditions.

The aluminum body is hard-anodized for high resistance to scratches and abrasion. The DeltaPoint Pro footprint base eliminates the need for extra plates or gunsmith modifications.
The front of the sight has aggressive Fast-Rack serrations, allowing the pistol to be racked using the optic. The sight is waterproof and dustproof, reinforced by the Shockshield insert, which effectively absorbs shock and recoil. Its interface is simple and user-friendly, with large buttons on both sides of the housing.

The Vortex Defender-XL features a high-quality lens with fully multi-coated anti-reflective layers, ensuring high light transmission and a crisp, parallax-free image. It stands out not only with one of the largest lenses in its class but also with its aspherical optical profile. This ensures crystal-clear sharpness both in the center and at the edges of the field of view, delivering a bright and clear target image even in low light. Four reticle dot sizes (2/3/5/8 MOA) allow perfect adaptation to shooting style:

• red dot 2 MOA – precise long-range shots, ideal for static targets;
• green dot 3 MOA – versatile option combining speed and accuracy, great for dynamic shooting;
• red dot 5 MOA – larger dot for faster aiming under stress;
• red dot 8 MOA – maximum visibility at close range or in low light.

1 MOA click adjustment, with 115/120 MOA range (windage/elevation). The Armortek coating protects the lens from scratches and external damage.

The electronics and diode are recoil- and weather-resistant, ensuring stable performance even in harsh conditions. Powered by a CR2032 battery, the sight provides up to 25,000 hours of operation at brightness level 6. As in the Venom model, the battery port is top-mounted for quick replacement without removing the sight. It offers 8 daylight and 2 night-vision settings. A motion sensor puts the optic into sleep mode after 10 minutes of inactivity and instantly reactivates it when the weapon is raised.
