Vortex Defender-CCW is an ultra‑light MRDS collimator designed for concealable short firearms. The Defender‑CCW uses an impressively large aspheric lens with a hard Armortek coating, a Shockfield insert that effectively absorbs impacts, a motion sensor to extend battery life, and a footprint compatible with the popular Shield RMS/RMSc standard.
Defender‑CCW is an MRDS sight designed for people who want to carry a pistol with a mounted collimator on a daily basis. The Micro Collimator Defender‑CCW offers instant target acquisition, an ultra‑light, low‑profile design, and a range of modern technological solutions that make daily use a pure pleasure. The sight was designed with self‑defense and CCW (concealed carry) pistols in mind, but the compact collimator design also allows it to be mounted on full‑size framed pistols.
Features of the Vortex Defender‑CCW collimator:
The sight body is machined from 7075 aircraft‑grade aluminum. As a result, the device has a lightweight and durable construction weighing just 27 g. The aluminum body is finished with a hard anodize process, providing high resistance to wear and scratches. The collimator base is made to the popular Shield RMS/RMSc standard, eliminating the need to purchase an additional mounting plate or have the firearm modified by a gunsmith.
The sight’s front has aggressive Fast‑Rack serrations, allowing the pistol to be reliably racked through the collimator. The sight has a waterproof and dustproof housing, supported by a Shockshield polymer insert that effectively absorbs impacts and recoil. The sight’s narrow profile makes drawing the pistol from under clothing smooth while allowing the firearm to be carried unobtrusively. The collimator features a simple and user‑friendly interface operated by large buttons located on both sides of the housing.
The Vortex Defender‑CCW features a high‑quality lens with multi‑layer anti‑reflective coatings that provide high light transmission and a clean, sharp image free of parallax error. The sight stands out not only for having one of the largest lenses in its class but also for its aspheric optical profile. This delivers crystalline image sharpness not only at the center but also toward the edges. As a result, you get a bright, clear view of the target and can shoot comfortably even in low light. With three dot options (3 red / 3 green / 6 MOA), you can perfectly match the sight to your shooting style:
The aiming point has 1 MOA click adjustments and is adjustable in the range 105/110 MOA (windage/elevation). The set includes a metal 1° shim which may be needed when zeroing the firearm at longer ranges. The hard Armortek coating protects the lens from scratches and other external factors.
The control system and LED are resistant to recoil and weather conditions, enabling stable and efficient operation even in harsh field conditions. The collimator is powered by a CR1632 battery which, according to the manufacturer, provides up to 9,500 hours of operation at brightness level 6. As with the Venom model, the battery port is located on the top of the device, allowing easy and convenient replacement of the power source without removing the sight from the firearm. The user has 8 daytime settings and 2 night‑vision‑compatible settings. The extended runtime is achieved through the use of a motion sensor, which, after 10 minutes of inactivity, automatically turns off the LED and places the sight into sleep mode. To reactivate the collimator, simply pick up the firearm. The motion activation system instantly wakes the collimator, making it ready to fire even after extended storage.
