Optima by Hatsan 95 STG 4,5 mm is one of the most popular spring‑powered air rifles on the market, featuring an elegant walnut wood stock, an adjustable Quattro trigger mechanism, and the SAS recoil reduction system.
Air rifles manufactured by the Turkish firearms producer Hatsan have been popular among Polish sport shooters for years thanks to the capabilities they offer within their price range. The Optima by Hatsan brand provides the same excellent price‑to‑quality ratio that results directly from the solutions used in the manufacturing process. The manufacturer’s extensive capabilities allow every component to be produced in a single factory, ensuring that the air rifles are built from the ground up under the careful supervision of Hatsan specialists.
The ergonomic stock is made from selected walnut wood. A durable oil coating protects the wood from wear and moisture while giving it a warm brown color with a matte finish. Decorative checkering on the pistol grip and the fore‑end improves the grip and gives the rifle an elegant look. Recoil after the shot is effectively absorbed thanks to a soft rubber butt pad, which also provides a stable support point. Due to its size and weight (3800 g), the rifle is intended for adult and experienced users.
The spring is cocked by the classic “break‑barrel” method, the most commonly used solution in spring air rifles because of its simplicity and ease of use. Optima by Hatsan 95 STG 4,5 mm fires 4.5 mm diabolo pellets loaded directly into the barrel.
Accuracy and shot consistency are ensured by a rifled barrel with a length of 450 mm, which allows stable grouping even after a short training period. The fired pellet reaches a maximum muzzle velocity of about 250 m/s (~ 16 J), allowing accurate shooting even at distances of 40–50 m. The enlarged compression chamber allows for custom tuning, which can increase the pellet’s muzzle velocity.
The rifle uses the patented SAS (Shock Absorber System), which absorbs a significant portion of the energy generated during the shot. The SAS system improves shooting comfort, extends the lifespan of internal mechanisms, and protects the mounted optical device from vibrations.
One of the most important components affecting accuracy is the trigger mechanism. In the Optima by Hatsan 95 STG 4,5 mm model, the manufacturer used a two‑stage Quattro Trigger match mechanism, allowing the shooter to individually adjust the length of the first stage and trigger resistance. The wide adjustment range improves shot control, accuracy, and shooting comfort.
Safety is the most important aspect of shooting, which is why cocking the spring (“breaking the barrel”) automatically engages the safety mechanism, preventing an uncontrolled shot. Before firing, the safety must always be disengaged. It is conveniently located at the rear of the piston chamber, allowing easy operation even without interrupting the aiming process.
The rifle is equipped with high‑quality fiber‑optic aiming devices, including a fixed front sight and a rear sight adjustable both vertically and horizontally. The contrasting (green‑red) fiber optic inserts significantly speed up sight alignment and, thanks to high light absorption, allow shooting even in low‑light conditions such as at dusk. If you want to try shooting at longer distances, an optical device can also be mounted on the 11/22 mm rail. The rail includes holes for a stop pin that eliminates the problem of “losing zero”.
