Optima by Hatsan 90 STG Vortex 4,5 mm is a powerful spring-powered rifle featuring an ergonomic polymer stock, a Vortex gas spring, an adjustable Quattro trigger mechanism, and a SAS recoil reduction system."
Air rifles produced by the Turkish firearms manufacturer Hatsan have been popular among Polish sport shooters for years thanks to the capabilities they offer within their price range. The Optima by Hatsan brand provides the same excellent price-to-quality ratio, which directly results from the solutions used in the production process. Extensive manufacturing capabilities allow every component to be produced in a single factory, ensuring that the rifles are built from scratch under the careful supervision of Hatsan specialists.
The rifle stock is made of durable polymer resistant to mechanical damage, weather conditions, and moisture. Maintenance and cleaning are limited to general care and occasional use of silicone oil. The Monte Carlo symmetrical cheek piece allows comfortable shouldering for both right- and left-handed shooters and enables the use of optics with higher mounts. Recoil is effectively absorbed by a soft rubber butt pad, which also provides a stable support point.
Fine checkering on the pistol grip and fore-end improves grip and enhances the rifle’s aesthetic value. Due to its size and weight, the rifle is intended for adult and experienced users.
The spring is cocked via the classic “break-barrel” method, commonly used in spring-powered air rifles for its convenience and simplicity. Optima by Hatsan 90 STG Vortex 4,5 mm fires 4.5 mm diabolo pellets loaded directly into the barrel. The polymer mock suppressor with anti-slip grooves significantly facilitates barrel breaking and spring cocking, especially noticeable during extended shooting sessions. The spring is equipped with Anti Bear-Trap protection to prevent accidental release during cocking.
Accuracy and shot consistency are ensured by a 450 mm rifled barrel, allowing tight groupings after only brief training. The pellet reaches a high muzzle velocity of approx. 250 m/s (~ 16 J), enabling accurate shooting at longer distances. The enlarged compression chamber allows for individual tuning to increase pellet velocity.
The rifle features an advanced Vortex gas spring system, responsible for smooth operation, reduced recoil, and improved accuracy. The system is based on a pneumatic cylinder that compresses a gas mixture instead of a traditional steel spring.
When the trigger is pulled, compressed gas drives the piston, compressing air and propelling the pellet. The system ensures stable muzzle velocity and significantly longer pneumatic system lifespan compared to a standard spring-piston design. The most noticeable effect for the shooter is reduced recoil and rifle weight, decreased vibration and shot noise, and less effort required to cock the barrel. Thanks to these features, the Optima by Hatsan 90 STG Vortex 4,5 mm stands out for its smooth and comfortable operation, above-average precision, and high reliability.
The rifle incorporates a patented SAS (Shock Absorber System) mechanism, which absorbs a significant portion of the energy generated during firing. The SAS system increases user comfort, extends the lifespan of internal mechanisms, and protects mounted optics from vibration.
One of the most important elements affecting accuracy is the trigger mechanism. In the Optima by Hatsan 90 STG Vortex 4,5 mm model, the manufacturer uses a two-stage match-grade Quattro Trigger, allowing the shooter to individually adjust pre-travel length and trigger pull weight. The wide adjustment range enhances shot control, accuracy, and shooting comfort.
Safety is paramount in shooting, therefore after cocking the spring (“breaking the barrel”), the safety automatically engages to prevent accidental discharge. Before firing, the safety must be disengaged — it is conveniently located at the rear of the piston chamber, allowing easy operation without disturbing the aiming process.
The rifle is equipped with high-quality fiber optic sighting devices, including a fixed front sight and a vertically and horizontally adjustable rear sight. The contrasting (green-red) fiber optic rods significantly speed up sight alignment and, thanks to high light absorption, allow shooting even in low-light conditions such as at dusk. For longer-range shooting, an optical device can be mounted on the 11 mm rail. The rail includes stop pin holes to eliminate the issue of “zero loss.”
