Optima by Hatsan 90 STG gen II 5.5 mm is a powerful spring-powered air rifle featuring an ergonomic polymer stock, an adjustable Quattro trigger mechanism, and a SAS recoil reduction system.
Air rifles produced by the Turkish manufacturer Hatsan have enjoyed popularity among shooters for years thanks to the performance they offer within their price range. The Optima by Hatsan brand provides the same excellent price-to-quality ratio resulting directly from advanced manufacturing solutions. The manufacturer’s extensive production capabilities allow all components to be made in one factory, ensuring full quality control by Hatsan specialists.
The rifle stock is made of durable polymer resistant to mechanical damage, weather conditions, and moisture. Maintenance is limited to keeping it clean and occasionally using silicone oil. The Monte Carlo stock with an ambidextrous cheek piece allows comfortable aiming for both right- and left-handed shooters and enables the use of optical devices with higher mounts. Recoil is effectively absorbed thanks to a soft rubber recoil pad that also provides a stable support point.
Fine checkering on the pistol grip and fore-end improves hand grip and enhances the rifle’s aesthetics. Due to its size and weight, the rifle is intended for adult and experienced users.
The spring is cocked by the classic “break-barrel” method, commonly used in spring air rifles for its simplicity and convenience. Optima by Hatsan 90 STG gen II 5.5 mm fires 5.5 mm diabolo pellets loaded directly into the barrel. The polymer sound moderator imitation with anti-slip grooves significantly facilitates breaking the barrel and cocking the spring, especially noticeable during extended shooting sessions. The spring features an Anti Bear-Trap safety system that prevents accidental release during cocking.
Accuracy and shot consistency are ensured by a 450 mm rifled barrel, allowing tight grouping after short practice. The fired pellet reaches a muzzle velocity of approximately 200 m/s (~16 J), enabling effective shooting at longer distances. The enlarged compression chamber allows for tuning to increase muzzle velocity.
The rifle is equipped with the patented SAS (Shock Absorber System), which absorbs a significant portion of the energy generated during firing. The SAS system enhances shooting comfort, extends the lifespan of internal mechanisms, and protects optical devices from shock.
One of the key elements affecting accuracy is the trigger mechanism. The Optima by Hatsan 90 STG gen II 5.5 mm features a two-stage Quattro match trigger, allowing the shooter to individually adjust the first-stage travel and trigger pull weight. The wide adjustment range improves shot control, accuracy, and shooting comfort.
Safety is paramount, therefore after cocking the spring (“breaking the barrel”) the safety engages automatically, preventing accidental discharge. It must be disengaged before firing. The safety is conveniently located at the rear of the compression chamber, allowing easy operation without disturbing the aiming process.
The rifle is equipped with high-quality fiber-optic sighting devices: a fixed front sight and a vertically and horizontally adjustable rear sight. The contrasting (green-red) fiber-optic inserts significantly speed up target acquisition and, thanks to high light absorption, allow shooting even in low-light conditions such as at dusk. An optical device can also be mounted on the 11 mm rail. The rail includes holes for a stop pin to prevent scope shift and “loss of zero”.
